The rapper took to Twitter to announce that he had completed the follow-up project to Cilvia Demo and on September 20, 2015, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith stated that new material from the rapper would arrive by the end of 2015. During its first week of release, the EP debuted at number 40 on the US Billboard 200 chart and sold 8,500 copies in the US. In regards to response the EP received widespread acclaim upon its release with the album receiving an average score of 82 out of 100 to reviews from Metacritic. The Ep followed its release on January 28, 2014, via digital download retailers and was made available in CD format exclusively from Top Dawg Entertainment’s website.
The record label is known to sign prolific rappers such as Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and SZA. The meet-up bore fruits as it led to the rapper being signed to Top Dawg Entertainment on June 3, 2013.
